If you love the Sugar Rush Peach pepper, then you should absolutely try its progeny, the Sugar Rush Stripey!

Cross continental family history: The Sugar Rush pepper varieties originated in Finland ~2009.  Chris Fowler (aka pepper growing legend in Wales, UK) then created the Sugar Rush Peach Pepper. Fast forward to 2015-ish and a grower in the US noticed exotic stripes on one of his Sugar Rush Peach plants.  Seeds of this unique mutation with shared with Chris Fowler, who has worked to further stabilize this variety and although some variation can still exist, it has become one of the most exciting new varieties in the pepper community. If you really want to go down a rabbit hole on this unique variety, check out this little pdf.

The taste of the Sugar Rush Stripey is sweet and fruity with hints of citrus, but it finishes with the heat of a mild Habanero. Its delicious flavor and medium spice level make it a great pepper for salsa, hot sauce, pickled peppers etc. Although it hasn’t officially been tested on the Scoville Scale, it is estimated to have the same heat level as the Sugar Rush Peach.

Favorite plant color combos:

    • Sugar Rush Stripey Pepper + Cardinal Basil
    • Sugar Rush Stripey Pepper + Raspberry Burst Cherry Tomato
    • Sugar Rush Stripey Pepper + Joy's Midnight Chard

This variety ripens early for a hot pepper and produces well even in cool growing conditions.  Plants grow 36-48" in height.  Peppers thrive in full sun and well draining, fertile soil.  Mulch at the base of the plant to ensure moisture retention and weed suppression.  SHU (Scoville Heat Units): 80,000 - 150,000.

  • Days to Maturity: 60 (yellow), 80 (peach)
  • Companion Plants: Basil, Borage, Cilantro, Marigold, Tomatoes
  • Open-Pollinated (OP)
  • Plant Spacing: 12 - 18"
