Land Acknowledgement
We currently reside on the land colonized as Oregon City, OR and Vancouver, WA. These lands rest on traditional village sites of the Multnomah, Cowlitz, Molalla, Atfalati, Ahantchuyuk, Confederated Tribes of Siletz, The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, and many other tribes who made their homes along the Columbia River.
It's important for us to acknowledge the land we reside on for many reasons. First and foremost, to be mindful and respectful to the Indigenous people that lived and continue to live on this land - Indigenous people are alive and well TODAY. So make sure you're not thinking of them in the past.
It's important for us to recognize their continued relationship and history with the land. We recognize that our ancestors stole this land from the Indigenous tribes and we strive to continue to learn the real history so we can show respect to the tribes and also the land itself.
If you're unaware of the native lands that you reside on, here's a great resource to check out, simply enter your address and it will show you the tribes, languages and treaties in that area:

It's a really great opportunity to learn the history of the people and the land. We have a long way to go but it's better to start somewhere than to not learn at all!
