Sonora Anaheim peppers are one of the most common chili peppers in the US due to their mild heat & versatility, not to mention their usage in salsa, canned chiles, and chile rellenos.

Sonora Anaheim is connected to a long lineage of chile breeding back at least to the New Mexico chile peppers that were selected by horticulturist Dr. Fabian Garcia in the late 1800's. The Sonora Anaheim specifically was bred by Peto Seed in the early 1980's.

So, if you like big, heavy yields of mild peppers, this is the variety for you!  The peppers have straight, smooth, tapered fruits that are about 1.5-2" wide at the shoulders (top of the fruit) and average about 8" long.  Sonora Anaheim has been tested at a very low 300-600 Scoville Heat Units (SHU) and honestly, it's sometimes hard to tell if there's any heat at all.  They develop to a deep green color, turning red at full maturity.  They thrive in hot summers with full sun.

Peppers can be transplanted into the garden after danger of frost has passed, typically late May in western Oregon/Washington.  Peppers thrive in full sun and well draining, fertile soil.  Mulch at the base of the plant to ensure good soil moisture throughout the growing season.
