Ok now we have been fangirls of this gorgeous dark chard for years and finally got seeds before they sold out!  It's not often that you see a dark-leaved chard.  But once we saw this several years ago, we just couldn't stop thinking about it.

Same classic chard flavor, good tolerance to cold and wet conditions.  Both color and flavor intensify as plants mature; baby leaves are milder to both the eye and taste buds. One of the unique things that drew us to the variety is the dark leaves with almost luminescent yellow-orange midribs (shoutout to Adaptive Seeds)...which really makes the darkness standout (black is beautiful!!).  We do love ourselves a standout beauty, especially one that's not "expected".  Beauty + flavor is our jam.

As with many dark-leaved crops, Joy's Midnight leaves are a bit smaller than most other types of chard and subsequently more suited for salad mix or braising.

Joy's Midnight Chard is a hardy crop that tolerates light freezes and continues growing even after a hard frost.  It prefers full sun but will tolerate partial shade in the summer.  Mulch at the base of the plant to shade out weeds and ensure good soil moisture.

Great for containers or mixed in with your natives and ornamentals.
