This particular strain is an improved variety of dark opal purple basil. One of the reasons I love using red rubin basil in place of Italian basil and you get that fun pop of color that people don't expect, but with the same great basil flavor you already love.
Favorite ways to use red rubin basil: caprese, Purple Basil Lemonade and my personal favorite, purple basil butter (purple basil + chive butter or purple basil + garlic butter are my go-to butters in the summer!).
Favorite plant color combos:
- Purple Basil + Limon Lightning Pepper
- Purple Basil + Raspberry Burst Tomato
- Purple Basil + Sugar Rush Peach Stripey Pepper
Harvest as needed, and don't forget to leave some flowers for the pollinators! All basil varieties have been pinched (topped) as seedlings to encourage side shoots, producing big & bushy plants. Great for containers!
This variety grows 18-24" tall and wide and have large, 3" leaves. Basil plants thrive in full sun and well-draining, fertile soil. Mulch at the base of the plant to ensure consistent soil moisture throughout the season.
- Days to Maturity: 75 - 80
- Companion Plants: Beans, Chives, Parsley, Peppers, Tomatoes
- Open-Pollinated (OP)
- Plant Spacing: 6 - 8"
