If you love the traditional sweet basil, then you'll love Purple Basil! This strain is an improved variety of dark opal purple basil. It is almost identical to sweet basil, except the flavor is slightly milder...and well, its purple!
Use Purple Basil in place of Italian basil and you get that fun pop of color that people don't expect, but with the same great basil flavor you love. Here's a few of our favorite uses for purple basil--
- Purple Basil + Garlic Butter
- Caprese (tomatoes, mozzarella, basil)
- Garnishes for cocktails, salad, etc!
Favorite plant color combos:
Purple Basil + Marta Polka Bell Pepper
Purple Basil + Champagne Bubbles Tomato
Purple Basil + Sugar Rush Peach Pepper
This beautiful plant grows upright and produces purple tinged large leaves that are sure to lighten up many dishes. Easy way to impress at a gathering. If you haven't tried or made purple basil butter, we highly recommend! It's a favorite at Jess' house every summer.
Plants grow 18-24" tall and wide and have large, 3" leaves. They thrive in full sun and well-draining, fertile soil. Harvest as needed, and don't forget to leave some flowers for the pollinators! We pinch all of our basil varieties so that they grow big & bushy.
Great for containers.
