The Hungarian Heart tomato is an heirloom that dates back to 1901, when it was first brought to America from a small village 20 miles outside of Budapest, Hungary.  Heirloom tomatoes are bred for their flavor and reliable production year after year.  Because of its heart-shape and delicious heirloom flavor, it's maintained a favorite tomato status among many, for longer than most of us have been alive.

This variety produces gorgeous, large, pink-ish red "ox-heart" shaped fruits that can grow up to one pound in size.  The giant fruits are meaty and flavorful but don't have a juicy core and have very few seeds - oh and they have almost NO cracking!  This is a versatile tomato that is absolutely delicious for fresh eating, roasting or canning.  Kristen is already saving jars for all the tomato sauce she's going to make & can from these big, beautiful fruits!

Tomatoes love full sun and well-draining, fertile soil.  Plant the stem deeper than grown in the containers as it makes for a stronger root system - plants will root along any part of the stem that touches the soil (we like to plant ours all the way up to the first set of bottom leaves!).  Amend with compost or worm castings and mulch to ensure good soil moisture for the growing season.
