Straight up: This is better than the Carolina Reaper. If you've tasted the Carolina Reaper in any format, you know its HOT, but the flavor is meh.
The California Reaper is HOT, but with FLAVOR. Fruity goodness packed into a fireball.
Developed by horticulturist and pepper breeder, Dr. Steve Bender, this pepper is the result of crossing the Carolina Reaper x Jay's Peach Ghost Scorpion (heat but fruity delicious).
Visually, the California Reaper matures in a pretty light peach color with a Carolina Reaper body. The plants get big and broad and are one of the most productive superhots in Garden Girls history. Expect the Scoville rating to be around 1,569,300. Wear gloves when harvesting and don't touch your face!!! #IYKYK
Fave hot color combos:
- California Reaper + Cardinal Basil
- California Reaper + Pink Berkeley Tie Dye Tomato
-
California Reaper + Cardinal Basil
Plants grow about 3' tall and will require full sun and thrive in well-draining, fertile soil. Mulching at the base of your plants will ensure good soil moisture and retain warmth below the surface all season. **Super Hots may need extra protection before the peak of summer and at the end, depending on how Mother Nature rolls.
- Days to Maturity: 100 - 110
- Companion Plants: Basil, Calendula, Cilantro, Parsley, Tomatoes
- Open-Pollinated (OP), Capsicum Chinese
- Plant Spacing: 12 - 24"
