Pepper, Stocky Red Roaster
Pepper, Stocky Red Roaster
We hopped on the Stocky Red Roaster train last year (2023) and we are not planning on getting off!! This Italian-type red pepper has an amazing sweet flavor when raw, roasted or cooked. It's super productive and the size is well, stocky (4-7" long, 2" wide at the shoulders). This red beauty is super fly, it was selected for its straight, uncrumpled sides, smooth skin, thicker walls and rich red color. Roasts like a boss and the skin is super easy to remove, and yet the thicker flesh also holds up really well to fire.
Fun fact, this pepper variety actually inspired the creation of the Culinary Breeding Network. And, it was developed by Frank Morton of Wild Garden Seed (amazing seed company in the Willamette Valley).
Easy to grow and a heavy producer of sweetness! Plants thrive in full sun and well-draining, fertile soil. Mulching helps retain soil moisture, especially during hot weather. Great for containers.
