Chives, Common
Chives, Common
We think chives should be in every garden. They're evergreen perennials, great companion plants and who doesn't love chive butter? Seriously, if you haven't tried chive butter, we highly recommend it. On everything.
Chives produce bunches of dark green, pungent, onion flavored leaves that are very versatile in the kitchen. The plants themselves are very hardy, can grow in full sun to part shade, and are great for containers. Midsummer, the plants produce lilac, globe-shaped flowers that are also edible, ornamental left as is, and a great nectar source for beneficial insects.
Plants grow to 12" tall and despite their shorter size, they do repel deer and other pests. This is an improved variety, known for uniform, robust growth. Perennial in zones 3-10.
- Days to Maturity: 90 days
- Companion Plants: Broccoli, Calendula, Kale, Peppers, Tomatoes
- Open-Pollinated (OP), Perennial
- Plant Spacing: 4 - 6" (in clusters)
