Thai Lemon Basil was the fastest growing of all our basil varieties last year, and it also sold out the quickest! Based on the refreshing citrus aroma, ease of growing and flavor, it's an absolute must for the garden!
Thai Lemon basil is delicious with seafood, or as a more complex flavorful alternative to sweet basil in almost any dish. It's best when added towards the end of cooking.
Try some fun Thai Lemon Basil drink infusions this summer, and pairing it with shrimp or salmon, maybe in a vinaigrette or tropical salsa. Follow along on IG to see how we use it!
Favorite plant color combos:
- Thai Lemon Basil + Tower Chamois Aster
- Thai Lemon Basil + Peppapeach Stripey Pepper
- Thai Lemon Basil + Sweet Tooth Tomato
Lineage: Adaptive Seeds (located in Oregon) received their seed from villagers at Ban Noong Ta Klong in the Issan region of Thailand, while on a Seed Ambassadors Project trip in 2009. It is very similar to the Penang Lemon basil variety commonly grown throughout Thailand.
This compact plant has smaller and more pinnate leaves, but otherwise grows similar to other basil types, topping out around 16-20". Basil thrives in full sun and fertile, well-draining soil. We pinch all of our basil plants so that they will be big and bushy in your garden!

- Open Pollinated (OP), Ocimum africanum
- Plant Spacing: 6 - 8"
